Northland District Masonic Trust
Retirement Villages
Northland District Masonic Trust is a charitable body corporate with perpetual succession, incorporated on 06 April 1967 under the provisions of the Charitable Trusts Act 1957, number 212029. The Trust is also a registered charitable entity No CC2825T under The Charities Act 2005 and three of the Trust’s villages are also registered under The Retirement Villages Act 2003.
The Trust’s mission is to assist with the provision of housing for the elderly. Application to apply for accommodation in one of the Trust’s units is open to all Northlanders.
Northland District Masonic Trust villages do not provide rest home facilities. They offer comfortable housing for older people who are lonely or on their own but who remain independent and in reasonable health. They provide security, companionship and mutual support, at the same time allowing residents to retain their independence and privacy.
Residents continue to live very much as they did in their private homes. They will retain responsibility for their own health care, cleaning the interior of their units, and are free to come and go as they like, including owning and driving their own car if desired.
Two types of housing are provided:
Rental Units
These are comfortable units, with off street parking, and a weekly rental that is below market rates. Certain criteria apply and this is available upon application.
Occupation Right Units
These are comfortable 2 bedroom units in Whangarei, Dargaville and Wellsford. Prospective residents will be offered an Occupation Right Agreement and the resident will be required to pay the Trust 50%-60% of the current market value of the unit, plus administration costs.
Thereafter a weekly levy is payable to cover the cost of maintenance to the exterior of the unit, rates, ground maintenance and insurance on the dwelling. Upon termination of the lease, the deposit is refunded, less an abatement of 5% per year up to a maximum of five years which goes towards refurbishment of the unit before being on-sold.
